Why every good pool is turquoise
Water is not blue. It swallows red light a little faster than blue, and a pale basin throws the rest back up at you. A shallow pool with white walls gives you that pale, milky cyan; a deeper one with dark tiles pulls towards cobalt. Most pools in my paintings sit somewhere between the two: bright enough to squint at, deep enough to fall into.
